Accolade on the Wines of Law Estates
“These are classic Paso Robles Rhône blends that bring substantial richness and depth yet still manage to remain beautifully balanced and light on their feet, which is the magic of these limestone hills of the region. They’ve done well in 2020, and the 2021s are absolutely sensational wines.” -Jeb Dunnuc
Story of Law Estate Wines
The owners Don and Susie Law have a passion for Rhone inspired blends. Paso Robles is the “America’s
Rhone” region. The mantra was to find a vineyard site that could produce ultra-premium, limited
production, Rhone and Priorat style wines that would be a true expression of the site. We found our
Holy Grail in an 80-acre parcel covered with limestone soils and low vigor soils, combined with high
elevation and steep slopes above Peachy Canyon Road on the west side of Paso Robles. This unique
property is producing the premium fruit we desire to create world-class wines.
We are committed to making exceptional wines through sustainable and organic farming practices with
minimal inputs. Our vineyard is one of the highest at 1600 to 1900 feet and planted in high density,
small-lot blocks. Multiple clones of Grenache and Syrah account for 53% of the vineyard acreage.
Accompanying that are Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Graciano, Petit Verdot, and
Tempranillo. The vast majority of our vines were planted in 2008. In 2013, we planted Clairette Blanche,
Marsanne, and Roussanne, as well as a Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne field blend.
Being a gravity-fed winery allows us to stay true to our winemaking principle. We utilize concrete
fermenters due to their pinpoint temperature regulating abilities as well as their small, yet significant,
amount of gas exchange from the concrete’s natural porosity. Wines are drained and pressed before
they go into a mixture of 100% French oak of which 30% - 75% may be new depending on the blend.
Once in barrel, the wine remains on its lees for an aging of 22-24 months before it is bottled unfined and
unfiltered. Our wines then remain in bottle for an additional year and a half before they are released.
